Eli's Homestead is a diverse, small scale, mixed vegetable, urban farm dedicated to providing the community with access to high quality, fresh, in season, locally grown produce.
Eli's Homestead is unique among other farms because of our overall farm model. A conventional farmer says, " Grow Bigger!", we at Eli's Homestead say, " Grow Better!" Where the conventional farm relies on tilling huge tracks of land with big tractors, Eli's Homestead plants on less than an acre of land located in a residential neighborhood while only using hand tools. (In fact, up until the 2018 season our biggest piece of "Equipment" was a Toyota Yaris.) While a conventional farmer, because of their size, is typically miles away from their market Eli's Homestead can always remain forward facing to the community that we serve by being able to market directly to the community through our own stand. Eli's Homestead also stands out because we are an aggregate for larger farms. Eli's Homestead is a small scale farm so we cannot grow everything that we need. This allows us to play a bigger, more active role in the food economy at large by providing the community larger access to more varieties of food grown right here locally in Maine.
A current barrier that Eli's Homestead and our model is currently helping to remedy is the CSA model. It has been found viable for farmers to get their product to market, but customers have found them to be costly, and inconvenient. Eli's Homestead helps remove this barrier to market by giving everyone in the community the opportunity to buy fresh, in season, locally grown produce at their convenience without an upfront cost to the customer.
We love our customers, so feel free to visit during normal business hours.
Open June through November, seven days a week.
